FAQ

Questions We Hear Every Week

How much does a steel building or carport cost?

It depends on size, height, how enclosed it is, and the doors and options you choose. A simple carport costs far less than a fully enclosed shop, and many enclosed garages and workshops land in the $20,000–$30,000 range. The fastest way to a real number is a free quote — we'll price your exact building, itemized.

Do I need a permit?

Many towns and counties require one, especially for enclosed buildings. Getting any required permit is the customer’s responsibility — we don’t pull permits and aren’t responsible for them, so please check with your local building department before you order.

If your permit office asks for plans: standard engineered drawings are available on request for Indiana buildings (they aren’t available in Michigan), and site-specific engineered plans are available for a fee in every state we serve.

What kind of foundation do I need?

Buildings can be installed on concrete, asphalt or level ground, each with the correct anchors. Your site must be level. Larger enclosed buildings are usually best on a concrete slab — we'll help you decide before you pour anything.

How long does it take?

Every building is made to order, so timing depends on the season, building size and your site being ready. We'll give you a realistic estimate with your quote and keep you updated as your install date gets close.

What areas do you serve?

We deliver and install throughout Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and the lower half of Michigan. Delivery and installation are included in your price.

Can I add doors, windows or insulation?

Yes. Roll-up doors, walk-in doors, windows, frame-outs, insulation, lean-tos and color choices can all be added and placed where you want them.

Will it hold up to Midwest winters?

Standard buildings are rated for a 40 PSF roof snow load, and a vertical roof helps snow slide off. If you need a higher rating, ask about 12-gauge framing and closer leg spacing.
